Tolman was praised for her performance as the part of Minnesota Police officer Molly Solverson. Vanity Fair said that Tolman was "calmly sure of taking over the whole show". Critics' Choice Television Award Best Supporting Actress in a Film/Miniseries. Nominations in Best Actress categories at Emmy Awards, Golden Globes and Critics Choice Television Awards. Tolman was cast in a two episode guest role as romance writer Abby Berman on The Mindy Program the same year. She had a role as the support character in Michael Douglas' movie about horror Krampus. Tolman turned down several roles in supporting characters including best friends wives, and mothers following her breakout role in Fargo. Tolman was seeking for an unusual role. Tolman played the role of a woman in the ABC drama series Downward Dog in 2017, based on Animal Media Group's website series. It was cancelled after one season. Tolman was a part of the ABC drama series Emergence it was launched on September 24, 2019, and was cancelled after one season in May 21st in 2020. Despite receiving "pretty good" ratings as per Tolman via Twitter. Her guest appearances in the NBC show NBC Good Girls were also listed as a source. In 2021, she appeared in the role of Alma Filcott in the second season of the drama series Why Women Kill, and she also played Natalie Green in The Facts of Life part of the third season of Live in Front of a Studio Audience.
